Introducing ... Baby Tempi
Hello again! I’ve been busy over the past couple of months with my newest children’s book project. As some of you may know, I have been working on a children’s book called Tempi for the past few years. I’ve gradually come to the realisation that a full 32-page children’s book is quite a big undertaking for someone who only gets to do illustration work in my spare time (usually between 5 and 7am during the summer months!), outside of my full-time librarian job. Me being me, I

November's inspiration
Jim Kay’s illustrations for Harry Potter I was very lucky to have been just the right age for the Harry Potter books. Although I wasn’t one of the kids queuing in the bookstores at midnight, I did read each one when they came out. I remember not being particularly impressed by the illustrations on the American edition, so I was surprised to come across Jim Kay’s illustrations in last year’s Harry Potter's: A History of Magic exhibition at the British Library. They are so amaz

July's inspiration
June has been incredibly busy, but in the most enjoyable way. My haul from ELCAF, UAL degree shows, and the Illustrator's Summer Fair UAL Degree shows 2018 Mid-June was the start of the degree shows at UAL, and I had my first chance to see the Chelsea and Camberwell undergraduate shows since starting my job at UAL. The last time I went to a degree show was probably my own back in 2010. It was also the first time I saw the newly refurbished Camberwell campus. I was very impres

Making of a design - Highgate Cemetery
In the second year of my illustration course, I did a project about the Magnificent Seven Cemeteries in London. At the time in 2008, I visited all seven cemeteries and took photos, but with the other projects at the time, it sort of fell by the wayside. I’ve been wanting to return to the project since then. Last year, I started working on two designs for Highgate Cemetery. I created two backgrounds in charcoal pencil, one of the Circle of Lebanon, and one of the Egyptian Aven

Nice, France
The attack in Nice that happened on Bastille Day really hit home for me. Alexej’s mom lives in Nice, and we’ve visited her every August for the past three years. Our next visit is in just a few weeks. My family didn’t really have a recurring vacation destination when I was growing up, so Nice is the closest thing to a family holiday spot. It’s such a relaxed, beautiful city, full of delicious food, gorgeous nature, and vibrant culture. For such an idyllic city to be the targe

Welcome!
Hello, welcome to my new website and blog! My website features many of the same images as before, with a few more recent additions. Two of the most exciting bits of news from 2014 and 2015 are, firstly, that I got married ... twice (same husband, different continents), and secondly, that my husband, Alexej, had his first book published by Edinburgh University Press, and I was able to create an illustration for the cover! I have included some of the illustrations I created for
