Back in July, I wrote about my newest children's book project, Baby Tempi. I'm happy to say that Baby Tempi will be published on Saturday 28 September!

You can pre-order it from my Etsy shop, Owl & Penguin Prints, and have the option to receive a signed copy! You can also pre-order from Amazon UK, other Amazon sites, or ask your local bookshop to order it for you. All orders will be shipped on September 28th.

If you're in London and would like to buy the book in person, I'll be selling...

One of the best parts of selling my illustration work via my shop, Owl & Penguin Prints, is getting to meet people at craft fairs. I'm excited to say that I'll be at Clapham Old Town Fair this Saturday, 31 August 2019, 12-5pm. I'll be selling my handmade and digital art prints, greeting cards, postcards, buttons, and notebooks, and showing how to make origami penguins and owls!

In addition to lots of different stalls, there will also be food and drinks, a dog show, farmyard animals, live music, r...

Hello! Wow, June and July have been a whirlwind of activity. This weekend is the first one I’ve had free in six weeks! I’ve been travelling a lot and seeing family and friends from all over. I’ve visited Brighton, Geneva, Serbia, and Glasgow, and even explored London like a tourist.

Boat tour of the Thames

My Mom and her friend were visiting London at the end of June to see Wimbledon tennis tournament. They’re both big tennis fans and play regularly, so this was an opportunity not to be missed.

Hello again!

I’ve been busy over the past couple of months with my newest children’s book project. As some of you may know, I have been working on a children’s book called Tempi for the past few years. I’ve gradually come to the realisation that a full 32-page children’s book is quite a big undertaking for someone who only gets to do illustration work in my spare time (usually between 5 and 7am during the summer months!), outside of my full-time librarian job. Me being me, I was comparing my prog...

Jim Kay’s illustrations for Harry Potter

I was very lucky to have been just the right age for the Harry Potter books. Although I wasn’t one of the kids queuing in the bookstores at midnight, I did read each one when they came out. I remember not being particularly impressed by the illustrations on the American edition, so I was surprised to come across Jim Kay’s illustrations in last year’s Harry Potter's: A History of Magic exhibition at the British Library. They are so amazingly rich in details...

October 13, 2018

Working in a university library, the first few weeks of October are always the busiest of the year. We’re meeting all the new students and showing them around the library, as well as running sessions for returning students. For students as well as staff, there are lots of highs and lows packed into the first few weeks of term.

I remember being a first year illustration student at the same university 11 years ago. I was intensely homesick, but I was meeting new people and exploring an exciting ne...

September and October are the last push on my children's book, but I've also been taking time to create some pattern designs. I recently finished a design featuring honeybees and various wild flowers. Earlier in the summer, I had the idea to create a series of nature-inspired patterns with an environmental message. I’ve already written about creating my first design, inspired by marine life and the effects of plastic pollution.

My second design in the series is quite a straight-forward flor...

September 2, 2018

After a jam-packed summer, it’s nice to have some down time in September.

In mid-August, my family and Alexej’s family went to Georgia for Alexej’s mother’s birthday. We had a great time exploring Tbilisi’s restaurants, and visited a winery, a mountain monastery, and ancient cities built into the sandstone cliffs. We ate khachapuri (Georgian cheesy bread) nearly every meal and drank a lot of wine and bright green tarragon lemonade. I’m hoping to write another post about our trip soon.

It’s also n...

Today is the start of World Water Week, and I thought this would be a good occasion to share the process behind one of my recent designs that is inspired by marine life.

A lot of my designs are inspired by nature, and one of the things I feel really passionately about is protecting the environment. I’m so glad that so many different environmental campaigns are really taking off at the moment, such as the increased awareness of plastic waste in the oceans. I wanted to create a beautiful design wit...

Happy 1st Anniversary of the 'Inspiration of the Month' series!

It was August 2017 that I wrote my first post about what was inspiring me for the month ahead. Although I didn't manage to write a post for each of the past 12 months, it was something to get me writing on a regular basis. I had a lot of fun writing these posts, and I hope you had fun reading them!

August's inspiration

Summer brings lots of excellent sources of inspiration. I’m drawn in so many different directions, but none of this...
