Highgate Cemetery is perhaps the most famous of London's 'Magnificent Seven' Victorian cemeteries. Opened in 1839, it is the final resting place of some of London's most influential inhabitants.
This design imagines the afterlife of three of the cemetery's artistic and literary talents: painter and model Lizzie Siddal, artist and Spiritualist medium Georgiana Houghton, and poet Christina Rossetti. The trio relax in front of the picturesque Tree of Lebanon in the cemetery's centre, and a border inspired by the Egyptian Avenue frames the otherworldly scene.
The design was created using pen and ink, watercolours, charcoal pencil, and Photoshop. The image is printed on Canson Aquarelle Rag paper, which has a slight texture, similar to fine watercolour paper.
